Jim Stephens has been the Head Football Coach since 1999. He also teaches English at the Upper School. Prior to joining US in 1994, Mr. Stephens taught and coached at Columbia University, Phillips Academy (Andover), and Laurel School. He earned his AB at Princeton University, where he was a two-year starter on the football team as a defensive back. Mr. Stephens received his Master of Arts and Master of Philosophy degrees in English from Columbia University. “I enjoy seeing players work hard to overcome what at first appear to be insurmountable obstacles,” he said. “I also believe firmly that athletics and academics go hand in hand and that successful athletes can also be successful students.”
